Jumel Carlos is the Principal of Frederick Douglass Academy III. He has over twenty years of experience in education as a Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal. His journey in education began as a sixth grade teacher In New York City. He later served as a middle school English Language Arts and History teacher and now leads one of New York City’s most replicated high schools around the world. Jumel started working at Frederick Douglass Academy III in 2002 and was a founding teacher of the school. He became a teacher leader at the school and eventually was promoted as an Assistant Principal. For the past 5 years, he has been the Principal for Frederick Douglass Academy III. Jumel is an Alumni of the Teacher Leadership program, FHI 360 Assistant Principal program and the Gray Fellows for Principal Excellence. He has engaged in Culturally Historical Relevant training for the past two years. Jumel has also led an Equity Team that serves to ensure that each child receives what they need to reach their academic and social potential. Under Principal Carlos’s leadership, Frederick Douglass Academy III has continued to build in young scholars the cultural awareness, self-confidence, and academic rigor they need to become lifelong learners within high school and beyond.

Takeisha Babb has been an English Language Arts teacher in the New York City Public Schools for the past 23 years. She has been a teacher leader at Frederick Douglass Academy III, a high school in the Bronx, for 15 years and is currently in her fourth year as a Peer Collaborative Teacher. Mrs. Babb received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language Arts at Herbert Lehman College, her Masters of Science in Multicultural Education at Iona College, and her Supervision and Administration Certification at the College of St. Rose. As a Peer Collaborative Teacher, Takeisha mentors, and leads in various capacities. She is the English Department Chair, Athletic Director, COSA/Afterschool Program Coordinator, and leads professional meetings. Mrs. Babb works closely with the principal, assistant principal, and the Instructional team to ensure that teachers and Scholars receive the support and guidance they need to be successful.
