Andres Favela, Fellow

James A. Garfield Senior High School

Andres Favela is currently the principal of James A. Garfield High School, a California Distinguished School in East Los Angeles. Andres earned his Bachelor’s in Political Science from UCLA and began his teaching career in 1998 as an elementary school teacher. In 2009, he became the Principal of San Antonio Elementary School and in 2014, the Principal of Ford Elementary School. During his leadership at Ford Elementary School, Andres worked collaboratively with all stakeholders in making it become a California Gold Ribbon School. Andres later became principal of Clinton Middle School in South Los Angeles where his work supported fostering a positive and productive school climate for students and staff. Andres has been the Principal at James A. Garfield for four years now and plans to collaboratively work with his school community to obtain the National Blue Ribbon Award.

Hillary Herrington, Ally

Hillary Herrington began her teaching career in 2006 as a Middle School teacher. In 2012, Hillary received her first Master’s degree in Education with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Los Angeles. That same year Hillary became a National Board Teacher in English. Her teaching experience expanded as she went on to teach elementary school and later high school. In 2017, Hillary earned her Master’s Degree in School Leadership from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Hillary has held many distinctive leadership roles that have included being a mentor teacher for various universities and most recently the Title I Coordinator. Hillary’s favorite role has been the ASB Advisor for her current high school, James A. Garfield.
