Lillian Lazu, Fellow

Little Village Elementary School

Lillian Lazu was born and raised in Chicago and is a proud graduate of Chicago Public Schools. She began her career with Chicago Public Schools in 1995 working as a special education teacher’s assistant at Brentano Math and Science Academy while completing her undergraduate degree in teaching. Upon graduating from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, she began her teaching career as an 8th grade science teacher. To better understand Diverse Learners and English Language Learners, Lillian pursued a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Special Education from Chicago State University. Looking to have a greater impact on students, she earned a Master’s Degree in School Administration and Supervision from Concordia University. In 2006, Lillian accepted a new position and transitioned to Goudy Elementary School where she began her leadership career as an assistant principal. In 2012, Lillian accepted the principal position at Little Village Academy where her passion for all students continues to drive her focus. With over 15 years of school leadership experience, Lillian continues to be a dedicated and innovative instructional leader who is purpose-driven, people centered and passionate about helping others grow both professionally and personally.

Edna Melgar, Ally

Edna Melgar was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in the Albany Park Community and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. She continued to further her education by attending Northeastern Illinois University. Ms. Melgar received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood  Education with a minor in Spanish and an endorsement in Bilingual Education. Upon graduating, Ms. Melgar began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at Trumbull Elementary School. During her career at Trumbull, she also served as the Bilingual Coordinator, supporting  English Language Learners.  Ms. Melgar decided to return to school to earn her Administrative Certificate and graduated from Concordia University in Chicago. In 2013, Ms. Melgar became a part of the Little Village Academy family as the Bilingual Coordinator and was then extended the opportunity to become the Assistant Principal.
