Claire Mawhinney, Fellow

Claire Ogle Mawhinney has been an educator in Hillsborough County Public Schools for 36 years. Most recently she has served as Principal at Randall Middle School in Lithia, Florida. During her time at Randall, she was awarded the title of Florida PTSA Principal of the Year, led her school in earning a grade of A for all eight years of her tenure, established a STEM club with over 200 students members and established a Multicultural Committee with the goal of equity and inclusion for all. Before her principalship at Randall, Ms. Mawhinney served as an administrator at Durant High School and Plant City High School. Prior to these appointments, Mawhinney was a successful social studies teacher in Hillsborough and Marion Counties. At Plant City High School, Mawhinney was voted Teacher of the Year by the staff and was named Social Studies Teacher of the Year by the Florida Council of Social Studies. In 1985, Mawhinney was named "Rookie of the Year'' at Fort King Middle School in Ocala, Florida. Ms. Mawhinney is excited about this growth opportunity with the Cahn Fellows Program. She hopes to model for her students the practice of continual personal and professional growth.

Brittany Carrillo Crudele is an outstanding educator who has taken on many leadership roles during her six years at Randall Middle School in Lithia, Florida. Mrs. Crudele teaches Civics to 7th graders and prepares them for the State of Florida Civics EOC exam. Mrs. Crudele has the gift of reaching all kids. She believes that every student can be academically successful. She takes on many school leadership roles. She is Randall's Chairperson for the School Advisory Council, composed of parents, community members and staff who provide guidance to the school. Mrs. Crudele has received several awards for being an outstanding educator. She was USF's Outstanding Latino Educator Honorable Mention, Florida Warren Tracy Teacher of the Year, Randall PTSA Teacher of the Year, and Randall Hawkeye "Unsung Hero" Award.
