Principal, J.H.S. 185 Edward Bleeker

Queens, New York

Theresa Mshar has dedicated over twenty-six years to the students of New York City public schools. Since 2012, Theresa has served as the principal of Edward Bleeker JHS 185 in Flushing, Queens. As a parent, a teacher, and an administrator, Theresa believes that every student can be successful and she has strived to have her school realize its vision of Success for All. Her core belief in continuous improvement has led to a growth mindset at Bleeker JHS, where the entire school community and families work together to ensure maximum student achievement and support the social and emotional growth of every student. As Theresa strongly believes in Blankstein’s philosophy that the answer is in the room, she is committed to on-site, job-embedded professional development that leverages the strengths of all Bleeker teachers. She holds an undergraduate degree, M.S. in Education, and Professional Certificate in Educational Leadership from Queens College. In 2022 Theresa was recognized with the Distinguished Principal Award from the Middle School Principals Association.
