Charlene Reid was a member of the ninth Cahn Fellows cohort in 2011 as Principal of Bronx Charter School for Excellence in The Bronx, NY.
Dr. Reid is now Co-CEO of Excellence Community Schools (ECS), a charter management organization with schools in Bronx, NY and Stamford, CT. Prior to her role at ECS, Dr. Charlene Reid was the principal and executive director of Bronx Charter School for Excellence (Bronx Excellence). Bronx Excellence was subsequently recognized as the highest performing K-8 non-magnet public school in New York State, and in 2012 was distinguished as a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. In 2019, Stamford Excellence was recognized as a School of Distinction for High Performance based on the 2017-2018 school year. Prior to joining Bronx Excellence, Dr. Charlene Reid served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in Bronx and Harlem. She began her career as a lead teacher in South Los Angeles. Dr. Charlene Reid earned her bachelor's degree in political science and her master's degree in elementary education from the University of California, Los Angeles. She also earned a master's in educational leadership from Columbia University. Dr. Charlene Reid earned a Doctorate in Education, Ed. D. in 2016 from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education. She is a Winter 2019 Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow.
